Pike was 18 when she killed 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer, a classmate at Knoxville Job Corps, in 1995. Prosecutors said Pike feared Slemmer was a romantic rival and lured her to a secluded area, where Pike and her boyfriend tortured and killed her. Both were convicted in the case.
The killing drew widespread attention at the time. Prosecutors pointed to the brutality of the attack, the young ages of everyone involved, and a satanic symbol carved into the victim's body. Pike became one of the youngest women in the country sent to death row.
If the execution goes forward as scheduled, it closes out a case that has sat in the courts for roughly three decades since Slemmer's death.
