Extra Troopers Patrolling Texas Roads This Labor Day Weekend - KFYO

Texas DPS troopers will flood state roads and highways from Friday, September 4 through September 7 as part of Operation Crash Awareness Reduction Effort, a holiday enforcement push aimed at catching drivers breaking the law over Labor Day weekend. The campaign, known as Operation CARE, is a recurring DPS initiative that ramps up trooper presence during high-travel holidays.

The campaign, known as Operation CARE, is a recurring DPS initiative that ramps up trooper presence during high-travel holidays. Labor Day consistently puts more Texans on the road than a typical weekend, and that volume brings more opportunities for speeding, impaired driving, and other violations troopers will be watching for.

For people driving down I-27, U.S. 84, or any stretch of highway in or out of Lubbock this weekend, that means a noticeably heavier law enforcement presence. Whether you're heading to a cookout across town or making a longer haul out of the South Plains, troopers will be out in force. The safest move is the obvious one: drive like you normally should.

Texas roads see some of the highest traffic fatality numbers in the country, which is part of why DPS treats holiday weekends as a call to deploy extra resources rather than simply send out a reminder to buckle up.
