The park first pulled X2 offline temporarily in July following reports of back-to-back brain injuries suffered by riders. Park president Brian Oerding announced Tuesday that the closure is now permanent, even though he said the ride "consistently passed a multitude of safety tests."
"Ride safety is a cornerstone of our business, and when we see guest conf." Oerding said in a statement, explaining the decision to shut the coaster down for good rather than keep running it despite passing inspections.
For thrill-seekers who made X2 a bucket-list stop, the news marks the end of a ride known for its raw intensity and its troubled safety record. Magic Mountain didn't wait for a mandate or a lawsuit to force its hand. The pattern of injuries alone was enough to make park leadership pull the plug.
The coaster passed every test on paper. It's closed anyway.
