TTU professor rewarded Fellow of ICA title for communication

Erik Bucy, the Marshall and Sharleen Formby Regents Professor of Strategic Communication at Texas Tech, has been named a Fellow of the International Communication Association, one of the most selective honors in his field. The fellowship recognizes scholars who have made sustained, significant contributions to communication research.

The fellowship recognizes scholars who have made sustained, significant contributions to communication research. Bucy's appointment puts him among a small group of academics the ICA considers the top tier of the discipline worldwide.

For Texas Tech's College of Media and Communication, this kind of recognition matters. It signals that the research coming out of that department on 19th Street carries weight far beyond Lubbock, competing with programs at institutions with much larger national profiles. Students studying strategic communication here are working under someone the field itself has singled out.

Fellows are elected by current members of the association, meaning the honor comes from peers in the discipline rather than from an outside awards committee. That peer-driven process makes it harder to earn and harder to dismiss.

Texas Tech has been building its research reputation across multiple colleges for years, and a Fellow-level distinction in communication adds another data point to that effort.
