White House television pool resumes after banned news outlets regain access

The pool, which includes NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox News, stopped recording and transmitting White House footage on Monday. The networks acted in solidarity with CNN, MS Now and Politico, which Trump had banned from the building over what he called "their constant 'reporting' FAKE NEWS."

For much of the week, no high-quality pool footage existed of White House events or the president's movements. Some smaller outlets tried to fill the gap, but the major networks' walkout left a noticeable void in coverage.

The standoff shows how far a sitting president can push back against the press corps before rival networks start acting as one. Five major outlets choosing to go dark together, even briefly, is rare. It took a court order to get the ordinary flow of White House footage moving again.

The dispute raises a bigger question about who gets to decide which outlets cover the president up close, and what happens the next time that decision gets challenged.
