Real relief arrives midweek, when temperatures settle into the mid to upper 70s. Forecasters expect that stretch to hold through Friday, giving neighbors across Lubbock and the South Plains a break from the late-summer swelter that's stuck around into September.

For anyone still running the AC around Tech Terrace or waiting out the heat before an evening walk near the Depot District, the timing works out. A few more degrees of cooling each day this week means comfortable mornings and manageable afternoons.
