Shiel Wood, a man on the move, finally parked with Texas Tech football - Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

Since January 2018, Wood has worked for seven different programs. That pace meant near-constant upheaval for his family, including a stretch where they lived for two or three weeks in an Airbnb pool house off a highway in Alabama between Troy and Montgomery. That is the reality of life at the lower rungs of the coaching ladder, and Wood climbed it fast.

This offseason is only the second time in nine years that Wood has not relocated his family for a new job. Now, with a three-year deal signed and a Broyles Award finalist nod behind him, he has something that has been genuinely scarce in his career: stability. For Texas Tech fans, that matters. The Broyles Award recognizes the nation's top assistant coach, and being a finalist puts Wood in serious company. Retaining that kind of coordinator in a competitive Big 12 is not a given.

For Wood personally, three years is practically an eternity given his recent track record, seven stops in roughly seven years before the Red Raiders landed him.
