The ad carries a disclaimer at the end reading "Paid for by the U.S. Government." It's nearly identical to a video Trump's 2024 presidential campaign posted to Truth Social in January 2024, according to NBC News.

The repurposed version cuts the last few seconds of the original campaign ad. Gone is the closing text that read "Join President Trump's fight to save America," along with his 2024 campaign logo. What's left is footage and language lifted almost word for word from a political ad, now funded by taxpayers instead of a campaign.

The distinction matters. Campaign ads run on donor money and carry no restrictions on political messaging. Government-funded PSAs are supposed to serve the public, not recycle campaign rhetoric about "warmongers" and "final battles."

Swapping one funding source for another, while keeping the script nearly untouched, blurs a line that's usually kept pretty clear between reelection material and official government communication. NBC News did not report who approved the ad's release or where it's airing.
