Littlefield issued a boil water notice Thursday morning, September 17, after reduced pressure in the city's water distribution system.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the City of Littlefield, Public Water System Number 1400003, to notify residents following the drop in pressure. Littlefield sits about 35 miles northwest of Lubbock, and plenty of South Plains families have ties there, whether through work, school or relatives.

The notice covers the entire system, meaning anyone on Littlefield's public water needs to take precautions. Low pressure events like this raise the risk of contamination getting into the pipes, which is why TCEQ requires a boil notice as a safety measure.
