Juvenile rescued from collapsed cave in Garza County
A juvenile got trapped under a collapsed cave at Lake Allen Henry in Garza County Friday night, prompting Lubbock Fire Rescue to send its Dive Team on a mutual aid call just before 9 p.m.
Garza County requested the help around September 18, and Lubbock Fire Rescue answered along with AeroCare, according to a Facebook post from the department. Lake Allen Henry sits outside Lubbock proper, but calls like this show how fast local crews get pulled into regional emergencies when specialized equipment is needed.
Mutual aid requests like this one mean Lubbock's resources do not stop at the city limits. When a rural county does not have a dive team or air support on hand, LFR becomes the backup plan. That kind of readiness, even for incidents far from 19th Street or downtown, is what got a dive team to Lake Allen Henry so quickly.
Cave collapses are not the kind of call most people picture Lubbock Fire Rescue running. But Friday night, it was.
