What is Talk of the 806?
Talk of the 806 is where 806 Connect covers what the 806 is arguing about: a post that became a subject, a public statement, something that happened and everybody has an opinion on. We report that it happened and who said what. We do not weigh in.
How do you decide what belongs here?
Somebody has to be on the record. A post with angry comments under it is not a story. It becomes one when an official, an organization or a public figure responds, condemns it, or distances themselves from it in public.
Do you name people from the comments?
No. We do not name private individuals who are not already named in a public record or an official release. Organizations, businesses and public figures answer for what they post in public. Their neighbors do not.
How do you decide the area label on each story?
We read it off the story itself: the headline, the summary and the outlet that reported it. If the story names a place (Lubbock, Amarillo, a South Plains town), that is the label. If it names none, it says "The 806". We do not guess a town we cannot point to in the text.
Do you take a side?
No. We quote the exact words, say who said them, say who responded, and state plainly what is in dispute. If someone has not explained themselves, we say that and stop there.
