Our standards

How 806 Connect decides what to publish, how we show where it came from, and how we keep paid content separate from the news.

1. 01

   Every story shows its source

   Most stories on The 806 Wire summarize reporting by other outlets. The outlet is named on the story and linked, so you can read the original. When 806 Connect does its own reporting, the story lists every source it used.

2. 02

   Breaking means breaking

   The red Breaking label is for stories that are developing right now. Everything else in the ticker is labeled Latest.

3. 03

   Paid content is labeled

   When a business pays to be shown, it is labeled Sponsored or Paid placement. Directory search does not rank businesses by what they pay, and the Best Of lists take no paid placement.

4. 04

   Private people stay private

   We do not name private people from scanner traffic or social posts. When we share a neighbor's post on a Talk of the 806 card, their name is hidden.

5. 05

   A tip is a lead, not a fact

   Until a tip is confirmed, we only say what a neighbor says, never that it happened.

6. 06

   We fix mistakes in the open

   If we get something wrong, we correct it and note the correction on our corrections page. Tell us at contact@806connect.com.
