Holly Thomas, who runs Holly's Sweet Treats, posted on 8 October that she would never vote for Marshall. She said his campaign ordered cookies and treats for a 2020 primary election watch party, the one before he won his first six-year Senate term. For nearly a year, she wrote, she called and emailed, never heard back, and never got paid.
Her post went viral and caught the attention of Marshall's camp. By Saturday, Marshall had answered on X with a screenshot of his $1,300 payment on the invoice. "We have absolutely no idea how this happened," the senator wrote. He said his side repaid the bill double.
Thomas said the timing hurt. The unpaid bill came during the Covid-19 pandemic, "when small businesses everywhere were struggling just to keep their doors open." Every dollar mattered, she wrote, and the treats cost money, employee time and resources her little business couldn't afford to give away. The post, she said, was not about parties or policy. It was about honoring financial commitments.
