The clip opens with Amell leading a rescue after a plane collides with a parasail. Hobie, the wild child from the original 1990s series, is now a Baywatch Captain following in the footsteps of his father, Mitch. His world flips when Charlie, played by Jessica Belkin, shows up as the daughter he never knew.
Fox picked up the show in September 2025 with a 12-episode order for the 2026-2027 season. Production started in Los Angeles in the spring, after an open casting call in early 2026. McG directed the premiere and executive produces alongside showrunner Matt Nix, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz.
Charlie wants to carry on the family legacy and become a lifeguard alongside her dad. Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi and Thaddeus LaGrone join Amell and Belkin. Megan Thee Stallion also shows up in the trailer. The original series helped launch Pamela Anderson, Jason Momoa, Yasmine Bleeth and Carmen Electra, but the 2017 movie with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron failed, so the franchise heads back to the small screen.
At its peak, the original was the most-watched show in the world, airing in over 200 countries.
