LCU opened the 54-hole event at Amarillo Country Club with a 281 (-3), then added a 287 (+3) for a 36-hole total of 568 (E). That puts the Chaparrals fifth in a 15-team field heading into Tuesday's final round on the par-71, 6,937-yard course. The 281 is their lowest team score since a 274 at the San Juan Intercollegiate on Sept. 23, 2025, and it ranks as the second-lowest opening round in program history.
Frierson, from Austin, sits tied for 16th at 140 (-2). He matched his collegiate low in both rounds and now has three rounds of 70 through his first three tournaments, the first last week at The Hrnciar in Duncan, Okla. He started both rounds on No. 6, shooting 36 on the front and 34 on the back to open Monday, then went 37-33 in the second round, playing his first 13 holes 3-under.
Leyton Hiebert added a 70 and a 71 to sit tied for 20th at 141 (-1). He arrived off a career-matching 69 in the final round of The Hrnciar.
Only one round at this event has ever beaten Monday's 281 for LCU, a 278 in the third round in 2013.
