KFYO runs the effort with Texas Tech's Free Market Institute. Hasty graduated from Texas Tech, and the institute created the scholarship to honor the host the station calls West Texas' most-listened-to.

Donors can mail a check payable to Texas Tech Foundation, Inc. The memo line should name the Free Market Institute and Chad Hasty, and the envelope goes to the Free Market Institute at Texas Tech University, Box 45059, Lubbock, TX 79409-5059. Texas Tech Foundation also made a QR code for online giving.

The money goes to undergraduates who have finished the institute's Political Economy Reading Program. Those students compete through a selection process held each semester at Texas Tech, and winners receive $1,000.

For Lubbock, that means a direct line from a familiar radio voice to students studying political science, economics, and related fields. Listeners who spent years with Hasty on the air now have a specific way to back the kind of young professionals he cared about. KFYO and Townsquare Media thanked Texas Tech for supporting young Texans in his name.
