The event runs from 5:30 p.m. Until 8 p.m. At the brewery, which sits at 7500 S.W. 45th Ave. Organizers say it is open to men across the Panhandle region. The screening uses a prostate-specific antigen blood test, called a PSA test.
Every man screened enters a drawing to win $1,000. Participants can also pick up a ticket for one free pint, good the same evening.
Ryan Parnell, director of the Cancer Survivorship Center, put the goal plainly.
"Prostate cancer can often develop without obvious symptoms, which makes conversations about risk and screening especially important," Parnell said. "We want to remove barriers and give local men an easy opportunity to take a proactive step for their health. It's a simple blood test, it's free, and this year there are literally 1,000 reasons to get screened."
According to the American Cancer Society, about one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime.
