98 Years Young: The Lubbock Bowler Who Keeps Showing Up

June turns 99 in May, but that hasn't slowed her down on the lanes. A retired kindergarten teacher originally from Washington, she moved to Lubbock five years ago and now lives at Carillon House. Bowling has been part of her life the whole way, and her league teammates have taken notice of just how well she still throws.

One of those teammates happens to be the mother of a reporter who stopped by Whitewood Lanes to see June in action. The reporter's mom had been bragging on June for a while, telling anyone who'd listen about the 98-year-old who keeps showing up and slinging heavy bowling balls like it's nothing.

For the other women in June's league, she's become something of a measuring stick. Averaging scores in the 130s would be solid for a bowler of any age. Her teammates know it, and they see her as proof that a decades-long habit doesn't have to stop just because the calendar keeps turning.

At 98, she's still out there most weeks, doing exactly what she's always done.
