At least 3 tornadoes touched down during derecho Tuesday, NWS says - NBC 5 Chicago

Our local NWS office finalized damage surveys late Tuesday night, identifying three separate tornado paths. One EF-1 twister tore through parts of South Lubbock, bringing down power lines and damaging roofs near the South Plains Mall and out toward Raintree. Another confirmed tornado tracked northeast of Loop 289, impacting rural properties along the Abernathy Highway. It caused significant tree damage. A third touched down further east, creating scattered destruction around Buffalo Springs Lake before dissipating. These tornadoes accompanied a derecho that brought widespread wind gusts up to 100 miles per hour, causing extensive structural and tree damage across much of the city, particularly north of 19th Street.

Residents in the directly hit areas now face extensive cleanup and significant property repairs. Many homes in neighborhoods like Tech Terrace reported downed fences and broken windows. City crews are already working around the clock to clear debris from major thoroughfares, but power restoration efforts could still take days for some heavily affected blocks. Insurance adjusters are preparing for a busy week as claims begin to pour in from across the city.

While straight-line winds are a common occurrence here, three confirmed tornadoes in a single weather event marks a particularly severe night for the Hub City.
