Castro-Quirino of TTUHSC selected for CPRIT AI advisory committee - The Daily Toreador

The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas created the Advisory Committee on AI to look at how the technology is evolving and where it might responsibly fit into cancer research across the state. Castro-Quirino will serve as a founding member alongside leaders from Rice University and MD Anderson Cancer Center. She brings experience from her roles as senior vice president, chief AI transformation officer and chief risk and compliance officer at the health sciences center.

TTUHSC already trains doctors and researchers who serve West Texas. Having its own leadership help set the ground rules for AI in cancer work could influence how that research gets done here and elsewhere, and it signals that Lubbock's health sciences work is getting noticed well beyond the South Plains.

A Lubbock health executive now helps set AI policy for cancer research alongside institutions with national reputations, and none of it required leaving TTUHSC.
