Davis College Students Explore Agriculture and Policy in Washington - Texas Tech University

The program puts Davis College students close to the legislative process most of them have only read about in Lubbock classrooms. Instead of studying how farm policy gets written from a lecture hall, they're watching it happen in real time, in the building where those decisions get made.

College leadership says the fall group marks an expansion of the internship placements, calling it a step toward growing one of the more distinct opportunities open to Davis College students. The internships give students direct exposure to how agricultural decisions get developed, debated and communicated at the federal level.

For students, the payoff extends past a resume line. Agriculture touches nearly everything about life on the South Plains, from cotton prices to water policy. That firsthand knowledge gives these students an edge when they head back to West Texas. Whether they land in commodity markets, ag law, or policy work, the connections they build in Washington follow them home.
