She arrives after postdoctoral positions at Cardiff University and Northwestern University, and earned her PhD in Astrophysics from Swinburne University of Technology through the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery in Australia in 2021. Her academic path started at Scottish Church College at the University of Calcutta in India, where she completed a BSc Honours in Physics in 2014. She then earned an MSc in Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2016.

Her work centers on how neutron stars and black holes form, evolve and merge. She traces these cosmic objects through gravitational waves, radio pulsars, Gaia astrometry and electromagnetic transients, piecing together multiple types of data to study the same populations of dead stars.

For Texas Tech, the hire adds another voice to a physics department already active in astrophysics research. Students in Lubbock now have a faculty member whose work touches some of the most active areas in modern astronomy, the kind of science usually associated with major observatories, not a university on the South Plains.
