Coronado High School has officially appointed Ernest Mims as its new head coach for boys' basketball. The announcement concludes weeks of speculation within the local community regarding the position. Mims brings a significant history with the program, having served as an assistant coach for the Mustangs for the past 12 seasons.
His tenure as an assistant included a period under Coach J.T. Tisdale, during which the team achieved a regional tournament appearance in 2017. Mims also played for Coronado, graduating in 2004. Following his high school career, he continued playing at the collegiate level for Wayland Baptist University. His deep roots within the school and the local basketball scene are expected to provide continuity and a familiar presence for the team. The athletic department expressed confidence in Mims' ability to lead the program forward, citing his extensive experience and dedication to Coronado basketball.
