Former Lubbock Official Addresses Double Pay Controversy

The county paid both Meurer and current Precinct 2 Commissioner Jason Corley at the same time starting in December 2025. In a press release sent Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Meurer said Parish gave him the same answer each time he raised it, that it was fine.

Meurer has agreed to return the full amount he was paid after leaving office. He says he already set that money aside rather than spend it.

For people in Lubbock County, this raises the question of who actually watches the payroll at the courthouse. Two commissioners drawing a paycheck for the same precinct seat for months is not a small clerical slip. Taxpayers foot that bill either way until it gets sorted out, and Meurer's account puts the oversight question back on Parish's office rather than on his own conduct.

Corley remains the sitting commissioner for Precinct 2. Meurer is out of office but now on the hook to hand back the money.
