The current phase kicked off this May and covers work from the ground up. New floors, walls, lighting, and ceiling fixes are already changing how the building looks and feels. Joel Thompson, Frenship ISD's director of facilities, says the pace has surprised even him. "They've done some pretty amazing work very quickly, and it has absolutely changed the feel of the hallways and the classrooms for the positive," Thompson said.

For students and staff who spend most of their day inside that building, the difference is not cosmetic. Upgraded lighting and fresh walls shift the energy of a space in ways that are hard to quantify but easy to notice. Thompson framed the whole effort as the district investing in the learning environment, not just maintaining aging infrastructure.

Families in the Frenship area signed off on the price tag before a single nail was pulled. That kind of community buy-in tends to set the tone for how smoothly a project like this rolls out.

Twenty-eight percent of $189.5 million works out to roughly $53 million directed at existing campuses, which is a significant bet on buildings that are already standing.
