Gov. Abbott appoints Laura Beth Fossett to Lubbock District Court - Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

Lubbock County prosecutor Laura Beth Fossett was formally tapped by Governor Greg Abbott on Monday to become the newest judge for the 137th District Court.
This particular court primarily handles serious criminal felony cases, from aggravated assault to drug trafficking. It's one of the most critical judicial posts in Lubbock County, sharing the heavy caseload of felony offenses with two other district courts operating out of the Lubbock County Courthouse downtown.
This appointment puts a new leader in charge of cases spanning everything from property crimes around South Plains Mall to violent offenses closer to Tech Terrace. Cases involving regular folks, whether facing serious charges or serving as victims, will now be decided under Fossett's direct guidance. Her extensive background as a prosecutor will undoubtedly shape the court's approach to criminal justice in the coming years, potentially shifting how these important cases proceed.
