Governor Abbott Attends Grand Opening Of Buc-ee’s In San Marcos - Office of the Texas Governor (.gov)

While San Marcos now enjoys another roadside giant, Lubbock still waits for its own beaver-branded behemoth. Many 806 travelers dream of a local stop for brisket sandwiches and branded merchandise. They often pass by Buc-ee's in Melissa or Temple on their way to Dallas or Austin. Our existing travel stops along I-27 handle plenty of traffic from farmers, college students, and families. They do not offer the same cult following or unique product selection.

This new outpost solidifies Buc-ee's presence along major Texas highways. Yet, the familiar beaver logo remains absent from our stretch of I-27. Local drivers heading out of town still rely on our existing truck stops and gas stations. They often make their first Buc-ee's stop hundreds of miles away near Fort Worth or Houston. The promise of those pristine bathrooms and endless snack options continues to elude Lubbockites traveling east or south.

With locations now stretching from the Gulf Coast to North Texas, the question of whenor ifBuc-ee's will ever make it to the High Plains persists.
