The National Weather Service in Lubbock has issued a Heat Advisory for Lubbock, Crosby, Floyd, and Lynn Counties from noon to 8 p.m.
That kind of heat is no joke on the South Plains. Triple-digit temps combined with August sun can turn a short walk across a parking lot, say at South Plains Mall or anywhere along 19th Street, into a real health risk fast. The advisory covers a wide stretch of the region, meaning folks across all four counties are in the same boat today.
The NWS warns that hot temperatures at this level may cause heat illnesses. People who work outdoors, older neighbors, young kids, and anyone without reliable air conditioning should take this seriously.
