In new filings, Kennedy Center says it won't try to put Trump's name on facade until Sept. 8

In a status report submitted to a federal court on Tuesday, the center outlined its intent to put the Presidents name back on the facility. The signage proposed by the centers board would eventually read: "The John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, Restored and Renovated by President Donald J. Trump, Endowed by the Trump Kennedy Center Fund." The board also seeks to rename the physical grounds of the arts center "President Donald J. Trump Plaza," though the last line of the signage requires $100 million in donations.

This proposal comes as lawyers for Rep. Joyce Beatty asked a judge for a speedy ruling concerning the complex's renovation and entrance tarp. Separately, the National Symphony Orchestra recently announced its upcoming season will take place away from the Kennedy Center entirely. The potential renaming and associated funding requirements present a significant shift for one of the nation's premier cultural institutions.
