The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center campus, just north of the Marsha Sharp Freeway, hosted its 'Next Stop Nursing' camp. Instead of sitting through lectures, kids dove into critical skill simulations like CPR and emergency "Stop the Bleed" training. They even practiced neonatal checks on infant simulators, handling realistic, high-pressure scenarios.

This all-day event offered a hands-on preview of healthcare careers, attracting students from across the South Plains who are seriously considering the medical field. Our city, home to major medical facilities, always needs skilled professionals. It's a smart way to show future nurses what the job truly involves, especially given the ongoing demand for healthcare right here in Lubbock.

Keeping talented young people here for healthcare roles is absolutely huge for Lubbock's future. This camp directly helps fill potential nursing gaps across our hospitals and clinics, from UMC to Covenant, ensuring our neighbors in Tech Terrace or Raintree get the care they need. It builds a strong local workforce, giving students a clear path from high school to a vital, well-paying profession right here in the 806.

Imagine learning life-saving CPR and neonatal care before you even get your driver's license.
