Mangoes sold at Walmart recalled for possible salmonella contamination - KCBD
Panorama Produce has recalled more than 300 boxes of mangoes sold at Walmart after the FDA flagged possible salmonella contamination, though no illnesses have been reported. The recall is precautionary.
The recall is precautionary. Salmonella turned up in mangoes grown on the same farm in Mexico that supplied this batch, but those specific contaminated mangoes were not shipped to the United States. The recalled fruit was distributed between Aug. 10 and Aug. 21.
Here is the catch for people in Lubbock: the affected mangoes were only sold at Walmart locations in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. None of the recalled product reached Texas. If you bought mangoes at any Lubbock Walmart recently, this recall does not apply to you.
Still worth knowing what to look for. The recalled mangoes carry a light blue sticker with the word "Agrofepac" printed on it. If you have been traveling or recently returned from the Northeast and picked up mangoes there, check your fruit before eating it.
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, hitting harder in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. The FDA has not expanded the recall beyond those four states as of this report.
