One Trip, Lasting Impact: Why Spring Career Days Is Returning to DFW - Texas Tech University

The move took the annual recruiting event out of Lubbock and placed it in the middle of the financial planning industry's home turf. Over several days in March, students completed more than 100 interviews with 11 employers and toured five financial planning firms. They also sat in on the Financial Planning Association's DFW Conference, giving Tech students face time with the industry beyond a typical career fair setup.

For a program built around landing students into financial planning jobs, proximity matters. Lubbock isn't where the firms are, and DFW is. Sending a whole cohort east for a concentrated stretch of interviews and tours gives students access most college career days can't offer from campus. Employers, in turn, get a shot at Tech talent without flying anyone to West Texas.

The School of Financial Planning is repeating the DFW format for the next Spring Career Days, betting that one intense trip beats a semester of scattered on-campus recruiting. Faculty, employers and students who took part in the first run are now weighing in on what worked.

That's a lot of ground to cover for a school that used to run this whole thing at home.
