Only one thing can stop Texas GOP dominance in Congress: Gina Hinojosa - Houston Chronicle

Only one thing can stop Texas GOP dominance in Congress: Gina Hinojosa - Houston Chronicle

A state representative from Austin just put Texas's congressional landscape squarely on the ballot, claiming a single electoral outcome could halt the GOP's ongoing power grab.

For us in Lubbock, where our district reliably sends a Republican to Washington, these statewide shifts might seem distant. Still, any move that consolidates power or reduces electoral competition across Texas influences policies. These decisions affect everything from agricultural aid to funding for Texas Tech.

When one party holds near-absolute control, the range of voices heard in policy debates narrows. This means less representation for diverse perspectives. Such an environment could impact state resources flowing to our part of the South Plains, and folks on University Avenue or near the South Plains Mall might find their local concerns less prioritized when a dominant party faces minimal electoral challenge. Texas hasn't seen a full shift in statewide congressional power in decades, making Hinojosas assertion a bold challenge to a deeply entrenched political machine.
