Lubbock native Sherry Deanna Dietrich, an LISD teacher who touched countless lives, passed away peacefully in Lubbock on August 11, 2026. Born in Lubbock on December 30, 1937, Sherry graduated as valedictorian from Petersburg High School in 1956, where she was also actively involved in 4H.

After earning her BS at WT A&M, she returned to serve the community. She began a rewarding career as an LISD teacher, leaving a deep impression on her students.
On October 4, 1959, Sherry married Lt. Kenneth Dietrich. Together, they raised two children, Shelley and Randy Dietrich. Her family grew further to include grandchildren Hayden, Grayson, Kathryn, and Elizabeth, plus great-grandchildren Jack, Riley, and James.
Many generations of Lubbock students experienced Sherry's passion in the classroom. Her lasting influence helped shape the character and future of the city, one student at a time.
