Small plane crashes in water next to remote Alaska coastal town, killing all 4 on board - CNN

The plane went down in about 15 feet of water near the shore of Seldovia, a remote community roughly 136 miles southwest of Anchorage. Alaska State Troopers could not immediately reach the wreckage because of the tide, and had to wait for the water to recede before they could get to the submerged aircraft, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety and National Transportation Safety Board Alaska region chief Clint Johnson.

The crash site in the Seldovia Slough sits just off the shoreline, close enough to town that people on the ground could likely see where it went down but too deep and tide-dependent to reach quickly.

Investigations into what caused the plane to go down are ongoing. Johnson's office is leading the NTSB's response in the region. No information about the identities of those on board had been released as of the time of this report.
