Texas DPS error leads to voter registration backlog before deadline - Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

The glitch surfaced through a nonpartisan association of election officials tracking the holdup statewide. DPS says the system issue behind the backlog has been fixed, but the agency hasn't explained what caused it. For anyone here who registered to vote at a DPS office, whether renewing a license at a South Lubbock location or handling other state business, that application may not have made it into the system the way it should have.

The timing matters. Officials are pushing Texans to check their registration status online before the Oct. 5 deadline, and that applies just as much to folks in Lubbock as anyone else in the state. If your registration got swallowed by this DPS error and you don't catch it in time, you could show up to vote and find out you're not on the rolls. That's a real problem in a county where plenty of people assume a DPS visit automatically means they're registered.

Nobody outside DPS knows yet how many Lubbock County residents are sitting in that backlog, and the agency isn't saying.
