Texas freezes installation of Flock cameras along state roads - KSAT

The freeze does not touch cameras already up and running along state rights-of-way. That includes more than 900 cameras the Texas Department of Public Safety operates across the state, according to the agency. TxDOT says its job has always been reviewing permits to make sure the readers get installed correctly and safely along state-owned roadways, not putting the cameras up itself.

The pause also covers agreements that got approved but never made it to installation. Any camera project sitting in that in-between stage, permitted but not yet bolted to a pole, is now on hold indefinitely. TxDOT hasn't said how long the suspension will last.

For people driving state highways in and around Lubbock, this means the license plate reader network stops expanding for now, even as the cameras already in place keep running. Law enforcement agencies that lean on Flock data for investigations still have access to everything DPS already installed.

What changes is growth. Any new camera plans tied to state road permits are effectively frozen until Austin says otherwise.
