Trump says he is banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House

Trump threatened that more media companies could face similar bans going forward as his complaints about negative press coverage continue. He has a long history of lashing out at reporters and news organizations, both in person and on social media, and has filed lawsuits against outlets he believes have wronged him.

This isn't the first time Trump has restricted press access since returning to office. In February 2025, his administration barred Associated Press journalists from the Oval Office, Air Force One and other events, arguing the AP's coverage did not meet its standards.

The ban raises fresh questions about First Amendment protections for the press. Legal experts and journalism advocates have pushed back against similar moves in the past, arguing that selectively excluding outlets based on their coverage amounts to viewpoint discrimination against the press corps.

For people who rely on CNN, MS NOW or Politico for White House coverage, this means those outlets will lose direct access to briefings and events happening inside the building. Other networks and publications still in the president's good graces keep their seats.
