WBU athletes serve Plainview on King Chasing Day - Plainview Herald

The event falls on the third Monday of September every year, set by the National Christian College Athletic Association. It pushes student-athletes at member schools to put in work on Christian service projects both on campus and out in the community they call home.

Jim Giacomazzi, Wayland's director of athletics, said the day gave WBU teams a chance to give back to a city that backs them all year long. He called it a way for a Christian university to turn faith into action, working alongside the City of Plainview to get it done in a hands on way.

For Plainview, it means public spaces got some free labor and attention from college athletes who normally spend their time on a field or court, not picking up trash or doing yard work around town. For Wayland's teams, it's a built in reminder that the support runs both directions between a small city and its university.

King Chasing Day happens every September, same week, same mission, but this year it landed on a Monday when Wayland athletes traded practice gear for cleanup gloves.
