His parents played everything from Frank Sinatra to Mozart to Maroon Five around the house, but it was a rerun of "The Beverly Hillbillies" at his grandma's place that cracked something open. "That's where I had really gotten exposed to, like, a lot of banjo and bluegrass stuff. And I was like, that sounds so cool," Gandy said.
That same summer, he walked into John Hartin's Texas Music Supply in Levelland and pulled a banjo off the wall. From Levelland to the Opry stage is not a short road, and Gandy has been making that drive while holding down a day job in Wolfforth, just southwest of Lubbock.
