Dry Friday for most, with heat continuing into weekend before cooldown - KCBD

Highs will run several degrees above normal for mid-September, climbing into the low to mid-90s across Lubbock and the surrounding area. That kind of heat this late in the month means another round of AC bills and afternoons that feel more like August than fall, whether you're out at Mackenzie Park or just walking to the car after work.

Saturday brings better rain chances in the afternoon and evening, so outdoor plans around town might need a backup plan. Storm chances also improve heading into next week, especially closer to the New Mexico border, so out toward Levelland and beyond could see more action than folks closer to downtown Lubbock.

For anyone still holding out for real fall weather, the wait continues a little longer. Yard work, high school football tailgates, weekend trips to the Depot District, all of it happens under mid-90s sun for at least one more weekend.

The upside is the break isn't far off. After one more hot, possibly stormy weekend, temperatures finally ease up early next week, right as most of Lubbock starts wondering if September ever got the memo about fall.
