Thunderstorms Possible Toward the West, Mostly Dry Elsewhere
Lubbock hits a high of 94 degrees Friday with a low of 72 overnight, and KAMC Forecaster Larry Rodriguez says thunderstorms could pop up toward the west while the rest of the area stays mostly dry.
The heat isn't going anywhere just yet. Rodriguez's forecast does point to temperatures starting to trend down as the season turns, so folks dealing with one more round of summer-style highs can at least watch the storm chances build out west.
KAMC is also running its annual first freeze guessing contest again this year. Anyone who can nail the exact date, hour and minute of Lubbock's first freeze gets entered, a tradition that gives people something to argue about at work while the mercury slowly slides down from the 90s. Somewhere out there, someone will guess it down to the minute and get bragging rights until next September.
For now, plan on a hot, mostly dry Friday with a slight chance of storms if you're out toward the west side of the coverage area. Grab water if you're headed outside, because 94 degrees still feels like summer no matter what the calendar says about fall.
