The only circular traffic features anywhere near town sit on the Texas Tech campus, and those are small enough that most drivers barely register them as roundabouts at all. Some people argue Loop 289 counts as one giant roundabout, but that comparison falls apart under any real scrutiny. The timing of the question isn't random either. September 21 through 25 is National Roundabouts Week, and the Texas Department of Transportation uses the week to push the case for more of them across the state.

The bigger issue isn't whether Lubbock could physically build a roundabout somewhere on 19th Street or near South Plains Mall. It's whether drivers here would know what to do once they hit one. Roundabouts require yielding instead of stopping. A city full of four-way-stop habits could turn a traffic solution into a demolition derby overnight. TxDOT and city planners would have to weigh driver education against the promise of smoother intersections before any of this moves past hypothetical.

Lubbock still has none, and depending on who you ask, that might be for the best.
