Coronado vs. Monterey, tonight on KCBD Streaming App

The two LISD schools enter the game from very different places. Monterey finished last season 7-5 and reached the second round of the playoffs, while Coronado went 1-9. On paper, that gap looks wide. On the field tonight, Coronado head coach Andrew Roy says it won't matter much.

"Yeah, it's fun, it's a non-district game, so we get to throw everything at them. Week one, rivalry, can't ask for much more," Roy said. Both head coaches agreed their teams needed little motivation heading into this one, which tracks for anyone who's ever watched these two schools line up against each other.

For Coronado, this game carries extra weight as the start of what the Mustangs hope is a turnaround year after a rough 2025. For Monterey, it's a chance to set the tone and prove last season wasn't a fluke. The broadcast is produced by LISD-TV, so local kids are literally running the cameras.
