Scattered rain started early Saturday in southern New Hampshire, coastal Maine and a few inland Maine spots, according to Zack Hargrove, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Gray. The rain turns steadier by Sunday morning and stays moderate to heavy through Monday before the storm finally clears out Tuesday.
Hargrove expects most of coastal and inland Maine to see one to two inches of rain through Monday. Southwest Maine, including York County, could see higher totals.
The extended soaking means dangerous surf, slick roads and lingering wind for anyone near the coast. Travelers and outdoor workers in southern Maine and southern New Hampshire should brace for a multi-day stretch of wet, gusty weather rather than a quick pass-through storm.
That kind of prolonged rain tied to a single system is a long haul for a region used to nor'easters blowing through fast.
