Lubbock Christian University awarded its full-tuition Presidential Scholarship to Kennedy Johnson, Practice Manager at Lubbock Children's Health Clinic, letting her return to finish a degree she started years ago. The scholarship comes from a new partnership between LCU and Lubbock Area United Way, built for working adults who earned college credit but never finished.

Johnson qualified through her job at the clinic, a United Way partner agency, and she'll use LCU's degree completion program to get back into the classroom.
The bigger deal here is the door this opens for others in the same boat. Employees at United Way and its partner agencies across Lubbock now have a real shot at finishing degrees without tuition stopping them cold. Some left school to work. Others left to raise kids, or because life got in the way. This partnership gives them a second run at it while they stay employed at the agencies already serving Lubbock families.
Johnson's win is the first test case for a program that could quietly change a lot of careers in this town, one employee at a time.
