The storm brought heavy wind, soaking rain and massive waves along the coast. Authorities are still searching for a swimmer who disappeared off the south shore of Long Island during the rough conditions. Rain showers, some heavy, are expected to continue off and on into Monday morning before the storm weakens and conditions improve.
The damage stretched across transportation and power networks. More than 450 flights were canceled and another 3,000 delayed on Saturday alone, stranding travelers up and down the coast. Tens of thousands of customers lost power as wind knocked down trees and lines, and coastal areas dealt with flooding on top of the wind damage.
For families near the coast, the storm turned a normal weekend into a scramble for safety. Crews are still working to restore power to thousands of homes, while airports remain snarled as delays continue to pile up.
