Ropes held onto the No. 1 spot after handling New Home 42-14 on the road. The Eagles now turn to a matchup against Texico, New Mexico, a team still unbeaten at 3-0. Cruising past Trinity Christian 56-7, Post stayed put at No. 2 and improved to 2-0 on the year.

The rankings matter beyond bragging rights around town. A pound-for-pound ranking system means enrollment size does not shield bigger schools from getting passed by scrappier ones putting up lopsided scores. Ropes and Post both look like the class of the area right now, and how they handle Week 3 will tell folks here whether that early separation is real or a product of soft schedules.
