J'Koby Williams ripped off a 38-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and finished with 116 yards on 20 carries, giving Tech a 21-13 lead. Oregon State answered right back, grabbing a 24-21 edge early in the fourth quarter before Coy Eakin bailed the Red Raiders out. Eakin skied over 6-foot-4 defensive back Jaheim Patterson to haul in a 32-yard scoring pass from Will Hammond with 6:31 left, the play that finally put the upset-minded Beavers away.

Backup quarterback Thomas Castellanos even got in on the scoring, punching in a short touchdown run of his own.

A win on the road is a win, and Tech heads into the heart of the schedule unbeaten. Still, the offense sputtered enough to let an unranked Pac-12 leftover hang around into the fourth quarter, and that's the kind of detail that gets picked apart at coffee shops around Texas Tech's campus this week. For a team with Big 12 title hopes, needing a late-game rescue against Oregon State isn't a great sign.

Two games in, Tech has outscored opponents but hasn't looked comfortable doing it yet.
