TxDOT names new Littlefield area engineer - Plainview Herald

Alex Mendoza, P.E., took over as TxDOT's new area engineer for the Littlefield office on Sept.

Mendoza isn't new to the region. He started with TxDOT's Littlefield Area Office in 2017, then moved up to assistant area engineer in 2022. In that role, he oversaw area-wide transportation operations and managed projects totaling more than $200 million, according to the Lubbock District TxDOT office. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from West Texas A&M University.

For folks out in the South Plains, this is the guy now steering decisions on the roads that connect these five counties, the routes farmers, ranchers and commuters rely on to get grain, cotton and cattle to market and kids to school. Littlefield sits close enough to Lubbock that road work decisions there ripple into daily commutes and freight routes feeding into the city. Whoever runs that office shapes which highways get repaved first, which bridges get priority, and how fast potholes get fixed after a rough winter.

Mendoza's promotion means continuity rather than a shakeup, since he's spent nearly a decade learning the area before taking the top seat.
